Jon's Random Acts of Geekery is your five days a week destination for old-school geekery!
I wonder why the mostly did ones based on cartoon UNTIL it comes for a record with them and then no cartoon based ones.. Probbly just cause it was cheaper but i remember the old (though new by means of these things) Read and Listen books where they take voice clips from the episodes along with new narration to tell the story..
I'm sure it was because of 1) costs (no licensing fees), and 2) someone at Kenner thought educational toys would do well. The idea was revisited in the 1970s, with a Give-A-Show Projector that had a built-in record player... I think they used licensed stuff there.Jon
