  1. I always thought these aliens had to have been inspired by those "evil" trading cards but I'm not sure the timing's right! When I was 9 this TV staple really creeped me out! It was also fun seeing a pre-Riddler Frank Gorshin.

  2. Do you mean the "Mars Attacks" cards, Booksteve? I've noticed the similarity myself, and wonder if this inspired the cards.

    Let's see... Invasion of the Saucer MEn came out in 1957.

    The Mars Attacks cards came out in 1962.

    Seems kind of strange that the cards would've taken a five-year-old movie as their inspiration... but then, the Wikipedia article mention that popular films, serials and novels are prevalent throughout the cards -- including Heinlein's Starship Troopers and the movie Teenagers From Outer Space...

    So I suppose the look of the Mars Attacks aliens could've at least been influenced by the Saucer Men!
