I should really send this photo of this very inappropriate Popeye squirt gun to the Fail Blog!

Planet of the Apes... Archery Set??? Anyone recall ever seeing bow and arrows being used in any of the movies or tv series?

When Mego made their Planet of the Apes toys, they couldn't get the rights to use Charlton Heston's image, so they created the Astronaut, whom I believe was a reissued Action Jackson figure!

Nifty banner for the first Planet of the Apes movie, eh?

One of Mego's clever POTA accessories was this Battering Ram!

Another bizarre Apes item is this Doctor Zaius bubble blower!
Here's some of the other Mego POTA figures:

Peter Burke, from the TV series!

Cornelius!

Soldier Ape!

General Ursus!

Alan Virdon!

Zira!

A Cornelius bank, manufacturer unknown!

Ursus bank! Or is that Urko?

Mexican Lobby Card!

Galen Poster Puzzle, from Aurora!
And here's an assortment of publicity stills from the first movie:

AHI made this POTA Swim Ring, which you might've guessed from the art style!

UK comics hardback annual!

AHI Dr Zaius paratrooper figure!

Pressbook!
And last, but not least... this very cool Planet of the Apes mug!

Next time around: Power Records, Pufnstuf, and more!

Great posts. I love the CoF review, and the POTA merchandise. I think the paratrooping Zaius was my fave :) The Popeye squirter...HOLY COMPROMISING POSITION BATMAN! That was a great way to start my morning..."priceless"
ReplyDeleteCool stuff. Was never into Planet of the Apes as a kid, but the toys look cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd that Popeye gun is just wrong. Wasn't there a Batman one done similarly? Egad.
Thanks, Mike!
ReplyDeleteWings - Yeah, there was a similarly-posed Batman one!
I had that plastic Cornelius bank. It looks like they gouged up the top of the head on theirs too. (That was the coin slot, and the only way to get the coins back out again!)
