Popeye and Planet of the Apes? What a combination!
This Popeye beach set would be cooler if the flat Popeye figure wasn't just a head, eh?
Yeah, it's a rack toy that doesn't have any relationship to the licensed character!
As you can see, the rack toy not relating to the character thing has been going on for decades!
The puzzles work for me as a Popeye toy, but not the slate!
Here's one of Mego's accessories for their 8" Planet of the Apes action figures. Like several POTA accessories, this one was recycled from their earlier Action Jackson horse!
I believe I've mentioned before how Mego couldn't get the rights to Charlton Heston's likeness, but instead of producing a generic Taylor figure, they just did this Astronaut (and I wouldn't be surprised if the clothes were more Action Jackson recycles!).
Cool belt buckle, eh?
Mego really excelled with the all-new POTA accessories... like the Catapult and Wagon above!
This was another excellent POTA accessory!
I'm pretty sure this Fortress was at least a partial recycle of an Action Jackson item, but it's still very cool!
Above is a French poster for the first movie!
One of these days, I really need to do some checking to see if Mego's Galen and Cornelius figures were exactly the same or not!
Another of Mego's great accessories for the POTA line!
These POTA keychains look like they used the same head sculpts as Mego's figures!
These Mix n Mold casting sets (even the non-POTA ones) are apparently extremely rare!
This may be all the POTA model kits!
How did I never see these rings offered in a vending machine when I was growing up?
A very, very cool sleeping bag!
One of the things I love about Mego's POTA accessories is the range in size, and the obvious price range, so that pretty much any kid should've been able to get at least one of the accessories!
The Planet of the Apes Treehouse is absolutely a recycle of the Action Jackson set (which Mego also repurposed for their Dyna Mite line for girls)!
Urko action figure!
Another excellent Mego playset!
A non-Mego playset, for those on more of a budget (well, at the time, anyway... these go for more than I can afford these days!).
Next time: Shazam! stuff and more!
