Yes, it's time for another round-up of things that are more timely in nature than the other stuff here! Let's get started!
ITEM So here's the latest in my schooling... Did I mention the whole situation at South Puget Sound Community College (which I'd been attending the last four quarters) was "blamed" on the Medical Assisting advisor being on "adminstrative leave"? Well, the plot thickens... I've learned that this person is going to be teaching at Olympic College in Shelton at least this summer... and how do I know that? Well...
ITEM! As of now, I'm no longer attending SPSCC's Medical Assisting program, and instead will be finishing off my degree at Olympic College! I was wondering for some time if this was going to work for me, and it seems as though it will, allowing me to graduate at the end of Summer Quarter 2011 with my degree. Having decided to pursue that avenue, I'd been hearing that the state's running out of funds to pay for the Dislocated Worker Program at the same level as last year, so I was concerned about how I was going to pay for the rest of my education... fortunately, I've been accepted into what they call a "cohort" program, one of only 15 students to be in this group, with tuition and books paid for! So that's a load off my chest!
ITEM! Finally got around to watching DC's direct-to-DVD Wonder Woman movie, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! It was a nice mix of the classic origin story and more modern interpretations, although I was kind of surprised at the violence level! Definitely not something I'll be letting my six-year-old son Tristan watch any time soon (besides, since I borrowed it from the library, they'll want it back in another day or two).
ITEM! Speaking of Tristan, I've taken to recording some of the superhero cartoons on Disney Channel to watch with him and daughter Desi, such as Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, the Marvel Action Hour version of Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and the Hulk animated series (the one with Lou Ferrigno voicing Greenskin). They're also showing the Silver Surfer and X-Men animated series, but I wasn't sure those would work well for my kids. Sure, Batman can be a bit dark, but since nobody's showing the Filmation series and we've seen all of Brave and the Bold so far, we need a Batman fix!
ITEM! You may have noticed a new blog listing on the Random Blogs of Geekery Family... the Comic Reading Library will start in August, and each day will feature a complete comic book for your reading enjoyment! I hope you'll check it out!
ITEM! Speaking of August, that month will be our first major road trip for the Knutson family, as we'll be heading off to Disneyland! Naturally, since I work so far ahead on this stuff, there'll be no interruption in any of the blogs (well, at least the ones that aren't on some kind of hiatus already for lack of material). As indicated, we'll be driving down there, along Interstate 5, so if any of you have recommendations of family-friendly stuff to check out en route, or even just want to recommend some good places to eat along the way (or even there in the Disneyland area), please let me know in the comments or email me at waffyjon at comcast dot net!
ITEM! Along with all this other stuff that's been going on, I've also had to look at the blogroll for the other geek blogs lately, and there are a few that haven't posted an update in way too long... which sadly means I've decided to drop them. My rule of thumb is, if it's been over a month, it's going off the list (and a month seems pretty generous to me... I've considered making it a week of no posts to drop them, but I'm feeling lenient).
