Jon,
ReplyDeleteRe: "Don't believe I've ever seen this movie!"
Nor have I, though IMDB lists it is available online. I'll have to look for it. Intriguingly, the reviewers also state that this film features the spaceship (including the crash landing in snow scene) and costumes we would see again in World Without End (1956) and Queen of Outer Space (1958). It'll be interesting to compare it to George Pal's "Conquest of Space" (1955) too.
Re: "The Amazing Story of the Boldest Adventure Dared by Man!"
1958's From the Earth to the Moon has so many irrelevant, non-Verne additions. Why bother to invent "Power X" or the "acceleration tubes"? IMDB reveals the screenwriter, James Leicester, tried the same thing, the same year, with Herman Melville's Typee as "Enchanted Island". The reviewers claim that the poor special effects are due to RKO going out of business and the film being shopped out to Warner Brothers. (I wonder if that's true?)
Thanks!
No idea if it's true or not, but intriguing nonetheless!
