Ape of the Geek: Brooklyn Gorilla!

Species: Human Mutated Into Gorilla

First Appearance: Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952)

Other Appearances: None... did any more need to be made?

Merchandising: None, other than VHS and DVD releases of the movie.

Biography: Nightclub performers Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo, en route to Guam to perform for the troops, find themselves stranded on the island of Kola Kola, where they meet friendly natives, including Nona, the tribal chief's daughter. On the other side of the island, however, a mad scientist -- Dr. Zabor (played by Bela Lugosi) lives. When Duke and Sammy go to seek Dr. Zabor's help, trouble ensues when Duke falls for Nona, but Dr. Zabor wants her, too, and plans to turn Duke into a gorilla. Sammy tries to help his pal, with unexpected results... including that (spoiler alert!) the whole incident was a dream! Sheesh.

Powers: The Brooklyn Gorilla had the typical strength and abilities as any average Hollywood gorilla.

Miscellaneous: Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo, who played themselves in the movie, are clearly intended to evoke Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, especially obvious since Petrillo does a Jerry voice throughout! If you have an hour and 15 minutes to kill, here's the movie, as uploaded to YouTube:
