Been working on future "Cover Stories" columns (I'm trying to get way ahead on 'em), and that's taken up most of my free time this evening.
Saturday will be our last day of class for Jessi and I as part of our foster parent training... we'll be getting up early for that, so I'll likely hit the sack early Friday night, so there may not be any more postings here until Sunday evening!
Have a good weekend!

Short Wednesday Post...
Woke up this morning feeling very lightheaded, and getting dizzy if I was on my feet more than ten minutes or so... even after eating breakfast and taking a shower, I still didn't feel quite right (and I still had the symptoms mentioned in yesterday's post). So I called in sick.
Probably a record for me... I don't think I've ever called in sick on the second work day of the year before!
Anyway, I pretty much spent the day watching stuff recorded on the DVR that I knew Jessi had no interest in watching, napping, and once, when I was feeling a little energetic, I wrote up a Cover Stories column!
This evening, the lightheaded feeling and dizziness seem to have passed, so if I go to bed early (which I will do), I should be able to go back to work on Thursday.
I hate being sick.

The weekend wrap-up!
Wow, do I have a lot to catch you readers up on!
Thursday
OK, I don't remember what work was like, save that we finished up fairly early, which allowed me to join Jessi at the birthday party for her best friend, Tifney. We had a pretty good time there, lots of good food to eat, and we pretty much ate healthy, with a few exceptions.
As I alluded to before, we originally had no plans for this past weekend at all, but Tifney and her husband, Mark, invited us to go razor clamming with them on Sunday, so that gave us plans for Krypto's birthday!
Friday
Work finished up very early... and we ended up making plans to get together with my brother Jeff and his wife, Kristi, for lunch on Saturday, as well as to just hang out together.
Saturday
We realized that we had a lot of stuff to get done before Jeff and Kristi came by for lunch, so we skipped walking the dogs. We did, however, take them with us as we ran around like maniacs doing errands. We picked up one Freecycle item (honestly, I forget what it was now), then ran over to Wal-Mart so we could get our clamming licenses and a pair of boots for me (because the only boots I had that were high enough were my Superman boots, and they're not waterproof!). As we were leaving there, we got a call on another Freecycle item, so we ended up going out to pick it up.
Have I told you about Freecycle before? Just about every city in the US has a Freecycle mailing list, or at least every county, it seems. If you Google "freecycle" you can probably find your local one. The way it works is, if you have an item that you don't need anymore, and you'd like to get rid of it without asking money for it, you post the offer on your area's mailing list (our local one is a Yahoo group). Optionally, if you're in need of something, you can post a wanted message for that item. Responses to the messages go to whoever posted them.
So, we had posted that we were looking for child car seats, since we need to have them for every possible size child as part of our foster parent preparation.
The second pick-up was for a child seat. We shouldn't have bothered. When we knocked on the door of the house, and the door opened, the interior of the house smelled... well, funny. I don't know if it was just musty-smelling, or if the smell was from smoking some illegal substance, or what, but it should've been a warning sign to us.
Then they brought out the car seat. It was practically covered with mildew and mold! They thought it could just be cleaned, and we didn't want to appear ungrateful, so we brought it home, and I tried to clean it as best as I could.
After about half an hour, I gave up, and we threw it out. We really shouldn't have bothered... because apparently, I inhaled something from the mold and mildew that's gotten me sick... and I'm still feeling the effects of it today! A bit of a sore throat, coughing, occasional dizziness and muscle aches, and feeling very tired!
It didn't really start hitting me until after Jeff and Kristi's visit (which went very well, except when Krypto practically knocked Kristi off her feet by accident in his enthusiasm).
I don't recall off the top of my head what I made for our dinner Saturday night... but I do know that I went to sleep very early, and slept for probably 11-12 hours.
Sunday
So, after getting up, having breakfast and getting a shower, I felt like I could still do the clamming thing with Tifney and Mark, so we loaded up the car with ourselves, the dogs, and our clamming clothing, and we hit the road to the ocean, meeting Mark and Tifney halfway there (for whatever reason, when we go somewhere with them on the weekend, we meet them at a Wal-Mart. At least it's a different Wal-Mart each time!).
We had never gone clamming before, so we required quite a bit of instruction, needless to say! Still, we did manage to each bag our limit fairly quickly, and the dogs (ours plus Whitney, Tifney's dog) got a chance to play on the beach quite a bit before we left.
By the way, for safety's sake, we made sure each of the dogs had a tag with the contact info on it, just in case they got away. I couldn't find any of the engraved S-shield tags for Krypto, but I did find a Batman luggage tag that I still had around, and put the contact info on that, so he was wearing that plus an S-shield tag... so for the day, he was the Composite Superdog!
Anyway... after leaving the beach, we headed to Mark and Tifney's house to clean the clams, and then Tifney made clam chowder and fried clams for dinner, which was delicious! Then we headed for home.
Now, this was New Year's Eve, mind you... and I was still feeling tired from being sick. I think I even nodded off for ten or fifteen minutes at Mark and TIfney's house! When we got home, I pretty much headed for bed right away, but Jessi was still wide awake! So, she stayed up watching tv while I went to sleep (she did wake me briefly at midnight to kiss me a happy new year).
Monday
I didn't mention it in the Sunday section, but while we were at Mark and TIfney's house, Tifney and Jessi started putting together a puzzle, which Jessi wanted to get some more work done on. Since we were invited back to their place for a lasagne dinner on Monday, we headed down there early (with their permission, naturally) and the women worked on the puzzle while Mark and I watched the Rose Bowl (ok, I fell asleep again and missed most of the first half -- I don't even have that much interest in football as it is, y'know).
Mark and Tifney's extended families also came over for dinner, and we all had a good time at dinner -- practically as many people as when my family has a birthday party!
Tuesday
We're headed into the home stretch! This morning, I felt well enough to go to work, figuring it would be an easy work day anyway. I noticed the oil light came on when I started the car up, so I stopped at the corner store to get a quart of oil to add to the engine... and after I put the oil in, the damn car wouldn't start!
This has happened on occasion before... I'd make a quick stop somewhere, maybe less than five minutes, come back to the car, and it wouldn't turn over. There's never any rhyme or reason for it! But it wouldn't turn over, so I called work to let them know what was going on while I walked back to the house, so I could ride my bike to work. Fortunately, my boss, Brandy, offered to come by and pick me up, because just as I got back to the house, the rain started pouring down!
Work was VERY slow... painfully slow. I doubt I spent a total of more than two hours doing actual work! I hate days that slow.
Jessi picked me up when we were done for the day, and we stopped where the car was waiting, I put the key in, turned it... and the damn thing started right up! Well, at least I didn't have to figure out how to afford to pay for another repair!

Sorry for the lack of post this weekend...
...but we went from having nothing going on to being extremely busy, while I've been sick for most of it.
I'll tell ya all about it tonight, I promise!
