Gallery: Comic Book Ads!

Got a bit over an hour until my eBay auctions start to end, so here's a bonus post for ya!

dc_02_76_1 kenner

From the February, 1976 DC Comics comes this Kenner ad for their attempted answer to Barbie... I don't know how popular Dusty et al ever got, but I know my youngest sister had one!

What I also don't know is why Kenner chose to advertise this item in DC's comics... heck, I scanned this particular one out of a war comic!

dc_02_76_2

This ad, on the other hand, is much more like it! I'm pretty sure that all the non-Mego toys featured here have appeared (or will soon appear) in my "Found on eBay" posts!

dc_02_76_3

And wrapping up the February, 1976 DC books, here's another of those Ideal Evel Knievel ads! Did you know that Marvel produced a one-shot that was maybe 16 pages in length for this line?

dc_05_76_1

Moving on, here's an ad from the May, 1976 DC books... is there a single item here that shouldn't be reissued today (heck, in adult sizes as well as kid sizes)?

dc_11_79_1

Jumping even further ahead, here's an ad from DC's November, 1979 books... Super-Heroes Glue Stic. Dennison obviously thought spending the licensing fee was worth it, but I don't know that even as a kid I'd prefer getting a Hulk Glue Stick instead of a plain one!

Found on eBay: Still More Batman Stuff!

Very, very slow at work today, so I figured I'd get some bonus posts in! So here's some more Batman stuff found on eBay!

batman_batmobileclifford.JPG

Unfortunately, the seller of this Batmobile, manufactured by Clifford, didn't see fit to take a picture of more than just the box... then again, maybe that's all they were selling?

batman_batmobilemystery

This red Batmobile has "mystery action," which would mean it's battery powered, and turns at random, naturally!

batman_batmobilesspideycop

Hey! What's that Spider-Copter doing there with those two obviously-loved Batmobiles?

batman_batprojectorgiveashow.JPG

Have I mentioned before that while Kenner made the Give-A-Show Projector in the USA, in the UK it was manufactured by a company called Chad Valley? Here's an example of one of the very cool Chad Valley Give-A-Show sets, which I believe is still up for grabs on eBay right now! Awfully tempting, since it's all Batman (and I haven't got any Give-A-Show Batman slides yet, assuming any were made in the USA of just Batman), but the postage is prohibitive at my current income level!

batman_batraybox

I'm pretty sure that the Bat-Ray pictured above has been released at least two different times, with different box art each time!

batman_batsafe.JPG

Obviously, this Bat-Safe was released and sold in the UK, given the money amounts identified! I don't know if there was a US version made.

batman_battlenigmagame.JPG

There have been quite a few Batman board games manufactured in the USA. But I have no idea if a US equivalent exists for this one, which has pretty nice box art!

batman_battricycle

This may be another of those AHI Batman toys... looks vaguely familiar to me!

batman_brazilfig.JPG

This Batman figure hails from Brazil, and I'm guessing it's a bootleg, especially considering 1) Spider-Man and the Hulk appear on the header card, along with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman... plus 2) Batman's got no cape!

batman_buttons.JPG

That's a nice variety of Batman buttons, isn't it?

batman_cardedtoys1.JPG

Yes, some manufacturers would manufacture pretty much anything and put a Batman sticker on it, regardless of how much sense it makes for it to be a Batman item. Why do you ask?

batman_cardedtoys2.JPG

batman_ceramicbank

There's something vaguely disturbing about this ceramic Batman bank... or is it just me?

batman_climbing

This "powerized" Batman toy from Remco pretty much did the same thing as the "Energized" Spider-Man, but I'm guessing for some reason, Remco couldn't just call this an "Energized Batman"!

batman_clock

Nice clock, eh?

batman_clothcost

I'm not sure why the seller of this costume put it on a manikin that is way too small for it... but I guess it was less traumatic than trying to find a child to model it!

batman_coins

And last of the Batman stuff for this edition of "Found on eBay" are these Batman coins. No, I don't know why you'd need to trade them, or how you'd "play 'em." Seems to me pretty much once you've bought them, you've got the whole set, why risk losing any of 'em?

Thanksgiving Thoughts

Here's a slightly edited version of the "What I'm Thankful For" post from last year, updated:

I'm thankful for my wife, Jessi -- probably what I'm most thankful for of all. Because of her, I became a boxer person, which led to my getting Krypto.

I'm thankful for our dogs, KO and Krypto -- and for their continued good health and for their affection and companionship.

I'm thankful for comic books and their long history, which have become my primary interest from an entertainment point of view. Comic books led to my meeting my first wife, and also led to my making a number of friends over the years (some of whom I've lost track of between moves across the country and back, but I still cherish the friendships while they lasted).

I'm thankful for the internet, which gives me access to a world of stuff I might've never been exposed to, and has also provided me an outlet via this blog.

I'm thankful for Apple Computers and the development of desktop publishing. Thanks to those two items, I found a vocation that I was not only well-suited for, but one which I've enjoyed doing (even if I haven't always enjoyed where I've done it). It's also given me skills that I not only use at work, but also use for my own enjoyment.

I'm thankful for my job. I may complain about it sometimes, but it's still the best job I've ever had.

I'm thankful for my family -- I haven't always gotten along well with them, nor have I always agreed with what they've done in their lives, but they've always been supportive of me through the years.

I'm thankful for the readers of this blog, even if I don't always get comments back from you, I know you're there (however many of you there are!). I hope you'll continue to enjoy reading it for years to come!

But perhaps most of all this year, I'm thankful for my soon-to-be son, whom Jessi and I should be officially adopting a week from Tuesday!

Found on eBay: More Batman Stuff!

batman_batcavemodel

Some enterprising eBay seller has been selling these kits, that I think are scaled for the Hot Wheels Batmobile.

batman_batcopteritaly.jpg

This Batcopter toy hails from Italy... I have no idea why Superman's on the card art!

batman_batcycle

I'm afraid I've forgotten where this Batcycle comes from... kind of neat in a funky way, isn't it?

batman_batcycleremote

Here's another Batcycle, which is remote-controlled, but doesn't seem to have a Batman figure!

batman_batgirlcost

I'm guessing that this Batgirl costume was one of the first Batgirl items available, and I'm guessing it came out between the Ideal "Super Queens" Batgirl doll and the Mego Batgirl!

batman_batgirlmarx.JPG

This foreign Batgirl knock-off toy was supposedly manufactured by Marx, according to the seller!

batman_batgrenade.JPG

OK, so here's the Bat-Grenade toy... but what's really interesting about this is that on the card, Batman's got his name on his insignia!

batman_batjet.JPG

This Batjet is very cool, isn't it? (Amazing how many Batman items I've featured that you've never heard of before, eh?)

batman_batmobile1-6a

Check out this Batmobile, which was a custom piece... it's 1/6th scale, and it's absolutely dazzling!

batman_batmobile1-6b

The detailing on this is just amazing... then again, so was the starting bid, if I recall!

batman_batmobile1-6c

This last pic really shows you how freakin' big the thing is, too!

batman_batmobile_1-8scale

Compare the above Batmobile to this 1/8 scale Batmobile here.

batman_batmobile_battery

Quite a few more Batmobiles to share with you today! This blue one is battery-powered, and I think I had a different pic of it that I shared maybe six months back or so!

batman_batmobile_choppperm

Want to know something weird? The name I have on this is "batmobile_choppperm" and I have no idea what that was supposed to mean now.

batman_batmobile_coinop1

When I came across this Batmobile on eBay a while back, I was so, so tempted to put a bid on it... it's a coin-operated ride, like you used to always see in front of Kmart...

batman_batmobile_coinop2

...aside from figuring I'd probably be way outbid, the seller required an in-person pick-up of it. I tell you, if I'd won the lottery, though, I would have so bought it!

batman_batmobile_corgicard

Of all the companies that have made Batmobile toys, I think AHI's made the most, and Corgi is a very close second! Mattel or Kenner would probably be #3.

batman_batmobile_duncan

This Batmobile, on the other hand, was made by Duncan (the Yo-Yo company? Could be, I'm not sure).

batman_batmobile_friction

This Batmobile is friction-powered!

batman_batmobile_jlthunder

This is a Johnny Lightning Batmobile... amazing how many different toys were based on the 1966 Batmobile, isn't it?

batman_batmobile_keychain

This Batmobile is the current one from Hot Wheels, but someone's made it into a Keychain!

batman_batmobile_slotcar

For many Batman collectors, this slot-car racer Batmobile is the "Holy Grail" of collecting... and I used to have one of them when I was kid!

batman_batmobileavon

This is the Avon Batmobile shampoo or bubble bath bottle! Cool, isn't it?

batman_batmobilebattery

Another battery-powered Batmobile here... looks like it's lost a tire, though!

batman_batmobilebronzecor

A couple of non-66 Batmobile toys here, I think by Corgi!

More Batmobiles and other Bat-items in the next "Found on eBay" entry!
