Cool Stuff: Original Comic Art!

Time to look at some more original comic art, starting with some Sgt. Fury pages!

sgtfury19_pg12_ayers.jpg

Here's page 12 from Sgt. Fury 19, by Dick Ayers! You'll see a lot of Ayers stuff in these Fury pages.

This Ayers page is page 16 from Sgt. Fury 6.

OK, that's enough Fury for this volume of Original Comic Art... let's see what else I've got to share this time around!

Ah, here's page 1 from Shanna The She-Devil #2, by Ross Andru!

The cover for Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #4 by Steranko! Actually, this may just be a stat of the original art...

Here's an apporpriate page to share during Halloween Month... it's page 31 from Shock Suspense Stories #12, by Wally Wood! Click on this to get a super-sized view option.

And we'll end on this piece... not the original cover art for Showcase 31, but a re-creation done by Ramona Fradon!

Monster Mondays on Friday!

countdown.jpg

This week's Monster Monday starts out with a foreign movie poster!

invasionsaucermen_swedp.jpg
Yes, that's the Invasion of the Saucer Man, as promoted in Swedish theatres!

Next, up... it's the Invisible Man!

And let's keep on the invisible track with... The Invisible Ray! Not sure if it really qualifies as a monster movie or not, to be honest...

I guess with both Karloff and Lugosi in the cast, it should even if there's no monster at all!

Speaking of no monster and invisible...

invisibleboy_poster.jpg

You've seen this poster before if you've been reading this blog for a while...

Wait, you want more Invisible Man?

Man, there's hardly any monster content at all for this Monster Monday! Don't I have anything with a monster right there?

Ah, that's better... still from It! The Terror from Beyond Space!

And we'll wrap up this installment with a few stills from Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter!

By the 10's: The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves!

countdown.jpg

And now, By The 10's comes to one of my favorite Charlton titles, "The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves." I'm not entirely certain why it's a favorite... perhaps it's that Dr. Graves was somehow more appealing a host character, perhaps it may be because he participated in some of the stories himself!

graves10.jpg

Issue 10 - Maybe it's that the art was so great on these, like this Pat Boyette cover! The coloring's pretty exceptional for Charlton, too!

graves20.jpg

Issue 20 - Looks like Morisi's work to me!

graves30.jpg

Issue 30 - A great Ditko cover!

graves40.jpg

Issue 40 - I'll never quite understand why they changed the logo -- it was a classic!

graves50.jpg

Issue 50 - Another new logo, still not as good as the original, in my mind!

graves60.jpg

Issue 60 - Thank goodness this is a better image than the last two (I suppose I could've checked to see of the Grand Comics Database got better images since these were collected). This is a beautiful painted cover, isn't it?

graves70.jpg

Issue 70 - Sure looks like John Byrne's work to me!

Next time, the Charlton Horror Comics Parade continues with Haunted!

Children's Book Theatre: Creature From the Black Lagoon, Part 2!

countdown.jpg

Time to continue looking at this book of Creature From the Black Lagoon! If you don't remember where we left off... well, the fossilized hand of a Gill Man was discovered in the Amazon, so Dr. Carl Maya went to the Marine Biology Institute, where he recruited Dr. David Reed and his assistant Kay Lawrence and Dr. Mark Williams to come with him and investigate further. Captain Lucas, skiper of the "Rita" was hired to bring them to the Black Lagoon!

And we'll leave it with this for now! More to come!
