Happy Valentine's Day!

Movie of the Week: The Crawling Hand!

Cool Stuff: Marvel Merchandise!

msh_spiderwomancomicconnect.jpg

I'd actually forgotten I had a picture of this... kind of a puzzle in comic panel form, in which you can reorder a comic story! Nice idea, but I think one would get bored of it fairly quickly.

msh_stamps

Interesting mixed bag of stuff in this lot... I've seen that French Marvel Stamps set offered on eBay twice so far!

msh_surfer78hotwheels

I wish I had a better photo of this 1978 Hot Wheels Silver Surfer van -- and I'm figuring that Mattel was producing this as a van that someone who liked the Surfer would drive, not a van that the Surfer himself is supposed to be driving!

msh_sw_buddylvehicles

Nice four-pack of Buddy L vehicles tieing in with the Secret Wars imprint here! Of course, only the Captain America motorcycle makes a lick of sense...

msh_sw_parachutes

How silly is this? I mean, I can understand the classic 1970s AHI Spider-Man parachutist, because Spidey's made his own web-parachutes in the comics... but this basket parachute thing is just ridiculous!

msh_sw_puffystickers.jpgmsh_sw_puffystickers2.JPG

I love the classic Marvel art on these Secret Wars puffy stickers!

msh_whistleflash.jpg

I'm not sure what I should focus on -- the silly whistle flash concept, or the fact that Hercules, Iron Fist, Hawkeye, Storm and Nighthawk are on the card!!!

msh_xmasactivitybook.jpg

Maybe I should've saved this photo for next December's Christmas posts? Naaaah.

Next time around, it's miscellanea time again!

Cool Stuff: Original Comic Art!

Let the Iron Man art pages by George Tuska resume!

And page 17!

I hope you like Tuska's work on Iron Man as much as I do... because we'll be having a third installment of it... and then after that, some non-Tuska pages!

Quasimodo's Monster Magazine #5, Part 3!

And we're up to page 52 of issue 5 of Quasimodo's Monster Magazine!

quasimodo05_52quasimodo05_53

And as I said before, this article is a review of Heroes of the Horrors, the author of which was interviewed earlier in the issue!

quasimodo05_54quasimodo05_55

It shouldn't surprise you that the book gets a positive review. Almost cut off on the cover reproduction is the note that Calvin Thomas Beck was the editor of competing monster mag Castle of Frankenstein!

quasimodo05_56quasimodo05_57

I've no idea if the review ran short, or what, but it does seem odd tat the Chris Lee Dracula photo ran from the last page of the review and onto the subscription offer on page 57!

quasimodo05_58quasimodo05_59

And as I also promised, here's pages 58 and 59, with Monster Mesh Puzzles! Word lists, answers, and mystery words will follow here in the coming weeks, so if you want to give this a try, feel free!

Next time: The Stepford Wives, and Quasimodo's Mail Bag!

Cool Stuff: Marvel Stuff!

Wait until Hulk Blog! starts up in a few months to see what old Greenskin thinks of this stuff:

msh_hulkpatch.jpg
Hulk Patch!

msh_hulkposterportfolio.jpg
Hulk Portfolio! I love this!

msh_hulkpuzzle.jpg
Hulk Frame-Tray Puzzle!

msh_hulkrockthrowing

Here's the other Remco Energized Hulk - looks like he throws rocks by having something jump up out of his head to make things fly out of his hands!

msh_hulkstickers

Nice Puffy Stickers - don't often see Daredevil and Reed Richards on this kind of stuff!

msh_hulksunglasses.jpg

This set of Hulk sunglasses was made of such high quality that one of the lenses has fallen out while the card is still sealed!

msh_marvelfunbook.jpg

I'd love to get all the Marvel Fun Books that came out!

msh_pinballgames

These Spidey and Hulk pinball games were advertised in a whole mess of comics!

More next time!

Four Years Already???

Sheesh, today marks the four-year anniversary of this blog, which began as Waffyjon's Random Thoughts and finally morphed into the Random Acts of Geekery!

Since the last anniversary, I hope I've stepped up my blogging game, even while adding the Give-A-Show Blog and the more recent new blogs... and I'm hoping to do even more this year!

By the 10's: More Fun Comics!

Going back to the Golden Age with this By the 10's!

morefun010
Issue 10 - A rare nude cover! Not like this is a big deal, eh?

morefun020.jpg
Issue 20!

morefun030.jpg
Issue 30 - Action and adventure take the cover from the funny stuff!

morefun040.jpg
Issue 40 - and the funny stuff gets the cover again!

morefun050.jpg
Issue 50 - Apparently the series was selling, but DC was trying to see what would sell more issues!

morefun060.jpg
Issue 60 - The Spectre gets the cover spot! With the super-heroes on the scene, the covers would feature amazing stuff for a while! This is a great cover, if you ask me!

morefun070.jpg
Issue 70's Dr. Fate cover is pretty lame, if you ask me...it would be a good Superman cover, but doesn't fit Doc Fate!

morefun080.jpg
Issue 80 - The Green Arrow and Speedy would keep the cover position for a while!

morefun090.jpg
Issue 90 - Green Arrow and Speedy still have the cover spot, but they wouldn't keep it!

morefun100.jpg
Issue 100 features the King of Speed, Johnny Quick!

morefun110.jpg
Issue 110, the days of super-heroes selling comics seems to be over, so the funny stuff is back on the covers, but it's series humor now!

morefun120.jpg
Issue 120 wraps up this By the 10's!

Next time: Our Fighting Forces!
