So... here's the scoop, from Craig Yoe's Secret Identity blog:
Hogan’s Alley Magazine For FREE?!? Wheeee!
As said many times, my fave mag on comics is Hogan’s Alley. How’d you like to have an absolutely FREE copy of this terrific periodical on current and historical comics and cartoonists? My buddy Tom Heintjes writes with the glad tidings on how you can achieve that:
“Even in the depths of the Great Recession, the best things in life are free! Mark your calendars for this Saturday, May 2: Free Comic Book Day. Send us an e-mail ON THAT DATE with your mailing address, and we’ll send you a FREE issue of Hogan’s Alley! No obligations, no strings attached; the only thing it will cost you is several hours as you enjoy the issue. (This offer is valid for all U.S. residents, whether you’re a current subscriber or not.) Remember the one condition—we must receive your e-mail request on Free Comic Book Day (May 2), not the day before or the day after. (Before and after that date, any requests for freebies will receive only scorn and derision.) Feel free to pass this offer along to anyone you know who might enjoy Hogan’s Alley!”

Do it! (And spread the word via facebook, emails, message boards, twitter–and door-to-door!)

Children's Book Theatre: Batman Big Little Book, Chapter 1!
Time to present another vintage children's book of interest, and this time around, it's the Batman Big Little Book, "The Cheetah Caper"! As you read through this, don't feel bad if you don't remember this particular Cheetah, because I don't think he ever appeared anywhere other than this book!

Next time: Chapter Two!

Cool Stuff: Bullwinkle Stuff!
Time for more stuff featuring Moose and Squirrel!

I guess the licensing fee must've been pretty good for Ward to sign off on this concept...

It's a clock! It's a bank! Well, it's just a bank, actually, that helps you learn how to tell time, I guess...
I hope this next item doesn't blow your monitor or something...

...because it didn't seem worth it to post this photo in a smaller size!

This sign was apparently used in stores to promote the Bullwinkle lunch box!

Spelling and Counting Board... because Bullwinkle's such a great teacher.

I wonder how many different travel packs were produced with the only variation being the sticker on the front of them?

And we'll end this post with these Bullwinkle Brain Twisters!

So, at the end of the last installment, I posted a Tales of Suspense page and said it was a teaser for this installment... that's because I've got a bunch of TOS pages to share this time around!

We lead off with page 30 from Tales of Suspense #15, by Don Heck!

Next, it's page 5 from Tales of Suspense #30, by Jack Kirby!

Here's page 2 from TOS #51, by Heck!

Here's page 6 from the same issue!

And here's page 11!

Page 12!

Page 1 from TOS #58, it's more Heck!

Famous Monsters #147, Part 7!
We're up to page 48 of this issue!

I love these advertising pages in Warren magazines! This one is all Close Encounters and other UFO/Alien goodies! I used to have that Close Encounters one-shot magazine!
Page 49 starts off an article on Arnold Gillespie, who worked on the SFX for Forbidden Planet, among other movies. This tribute article includes quotes from people who worked with Gillespie, such as George Pal.

Gillespie's film career began in 1921, and included work on the Wizard of Oz and King Kong!
Yep, it's a short installment this time! Next time around: How to Communicate With an Alien!

Just in Case You're Wondering...
...this is not me.
By the 10's: Fightin' Army!
Fightin' Army is an interesting case... mainly because the first issue was #16, and previously the title was "Soldier and Marine Comics," but that title started at issue #11, and apparently nobody's figured out what it was before then!

That's why issue 20 is the first issue of Fightin' Army in this By the 10's!

Issue 30

Issue 40

Issue 50

Issue 60

Issue 70

Issue 80 - The Willy Schultz series has earned a lot of acclaim!

Issue 90

Issue 100

Issue 110 - since this will only last through 170, I figured I may as well finish this in one day!

Great painted cover on issue 120!

Issue 130

Issue 140 -- That's one intense cover!
