Cool Stuff!

Let's see what's on hand for this edition:

powerrecordsmisc.JPG

These three Power Records, like all of them, are probably available to download somewhere!

pufnstuf_mexlc.JPG

Here's a Mexican lobby card for the H.R. Pufnstuf movie! And speaking of Mexican lobby cards, here's some for Queen of Outer Space!

queenofos_mexlc.JPG
queenofouterspace_mexlc.JPG

robinhoodsetbox

Next we have this set of Mego Robin Hood figures... yep, Mego produced a good variety of stuff!

Now, it's back to a few Mexican Lobby Cards... for Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger!

sinbadeyeoftiger_mexlc.JPG
sinbadeyeoftiger_mexlc.JPG

sinbadtiger_austposter.jpg

And here's an Australian poster for that epic!

sinbadtiger_lc1.jpg

And a lobby card...

sinbadtiger_still1.jpg
sinbadtiger_still2.jpg
sinbadtiger_still3.jpg

And a selection of stills!

sinbadtiger_uk.jpg

And finally, here's a UK poster for the film!

softiebatman

Here's another Mego oddity... a "Softie" Batman figure!

soace1999_roadstar

Here's a Space: 1999 "Roadstar" toy... I'm guessing it's got wheels on the bottom for playing with like a Hot Wheels.

space1999_adventureplayset

Amsco did a number of cool cardboard fold-and-assemble playsets similar to this, all highly collectible today!

space1999_aliencarahi

This Alien car by AHI looks like the same vehicle as was featured as a Space: 1999 model kit... and it never appeared on the show, or so I've been told!

space1999_alphaflicks

The "Alphaflicks" toy here is one of those "movie viewer" toys with a roll of pictures on paper.

space1999_banks

Didja know there were Space: 1999 banks? Now you do!

space1999_colorforms

Here's Space: 1999 Colorforms!

space1999_dartgun

This dart gun bears no resemblance to the weapons used by the Moonbase Alpha crew, does it?

We'll have some more Space: 1999 collectibles to start with next time!

Children's Book Theatre: Huckleberry Hound Coloring Book, Part 3!

Last time around, Huck and the gang were doing housepainting and wallpaper hanging... this time, they're sanitation engineers, I guess!

huck_018
huck_019

Two more pages are lost, but I think we can figure out what happened there...

huck_020

...yep, with Mr. Jinx in the garbage can, that will end this career (I wonder if Jinx was the cause of him losing the soda jerk job? Maybe Huck should be more careful when Pixie and Dixie show up?)! We'll see what field Huck enters next time!

Give-A-Show Fridays: Off to See the Wizard and Lassie!

"Off to See the Wizard" was a short-lived animated series based on (obviously) the Wizard of Oz!

Random Videos of Geekery: The Fantastic Four Book and Record Set!

Part 1:

Part 2:

By the 10's: Fritzi Ritz!

This time around, By the 10's looks at Fritzi Ritz! She doesn't ring a bell with some of you younger readers? She was Nancy's aunt (you know, Nancy as in "Nancy and Sluggo"?), and was the featured character in that strip originally, until her niece came along and took over the thing!

fritzi10.jpg

Here's issue 10's cover!

fritzi30.jpg

No scan of issue 20 handy, so we skip to issue 30!

fritzi40.jpg

Here issue 40's cover... and yes, that's Nancy there, and the title had also jumped publishers by this point!

fritzi50.jpg

Issue 50 - Fritzi barely appears on her own book's cover here! With issue 56, the title moved again, this time to Dell Comics, but only lasted a few more issues!

Castle of Frankenstein #16, Part 2!

This time around, we're looking at the article on "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth"!

cof16_012
cof16_013

So, on the left-hand page, as you can see, there's a full-page shot of star Victoria Vetri, along with some brief info on her. Page 13 features cast and production credits on the film, as well as a very brief plot summary.

cof16_014

Production info on the third page mentions Jim Danforth's SFX, as well as a list of the caveman words created for the movie (based on borrowings from Latin, Sanskrit and Phoencian).

cof16_015

And here's a bonus page, on Czech cinema, covering a few of the then-lensing Czech genre films, none of which I've ever heard of! The primary focus is on "Eden and After," about a group of students who think of stories that they try to make real, with the help of a mysterious stranger.

cof16_016
cof16_017

More bonus pages, this time on a few versions of "The Portrait of Dorian Gray"!

cof16_018

And wouldja believe one more bonus page? This page deals with "The Vampire Lovers," with a brief biography of star Ingrid Pitt.

Next time: All Manner of Fantasies!

Cool Stuff! Popeye and Planet of the Apes!

Time for another edition of Cool Stuff, where I share photos of items that were offered on eBay some time back!

popeye_squirtgun.jpg

I should really send this photo of this very inappropriate Popeye squirt gun to the Fail Blog!

pota_archeryset.JPG

Planet of the Apes... Archery Set??? Anyone recall ever seeing bow and arrows being used in any of the movies or tv series?

pota_astronaut
pota_astronautbox.JPG

When Mego made their Planet of the Apes toys, they couldn't get the rights to use Charlton Heston's image, so they created the Astronaut, whom I believe was a reissued Action Jackson figure!

pota_banner

Nifty banner for the first Planet of the Apes movie, eh?

pota_batteringram

One of Mego's clever POTA accessories was this Battering Ram!

pota_bubbleblower.JPG

Another bizarre Apes item is this Doctor Zaius bubble blower!

Here's some of the other Mego POTA figures:

pota_burke
Peter Burke, from the TV series!

pota_cornelius
Cornelius!

pota_soldierape
Soldier Ape!

pota_ursus
General Ursus!

pota_virdon
Alan Virdon!

pota_zira

pota_urusbank

Ursus bank! Or is that Urko?

pota_mexlc.JPG

Mexican Lobby Card!

pota_puzzle

And here's an assortment of publicity stills from the first movie:

pota_swimringahi

AHI made this POTA Swim Ring, which you might've guessed from the art style!

pota_ukannual

UK comics hardback annual!

pota_zaiusparachuterahi

AHI Dr Zaius paratrooper figure!

potapressbook

Pressbook!

And last, but not least... this very cool Planet of the Apes mug!
