This 'n That Time!
ITEM! I wanted to make note of the recent passing of Peter Fernandez (the voice of Speed Racer, among other characters on the show) and Harvey Pekar. I never had the opportunity to meet either of these talented men, and their passing just reminds me of how many people I admire that I'll never have the opportunity to tell how much their work meant to me.
ITEM! Been working away steadily on the newest Random Blog of Geekery, the Comics Reading Library (which starts publishing August 1st). As of today, I've got posts set up through the first week of November. As many of you know, I tend to work very far ahead on my blogs to ensure uninterrupted publication, so you know this one will definitely not have a missed day!
ITEM! Speaking of working ahead, this blog has posts already written and scheduled through the end of November! Once I get the rest of the November posts done for the Comics Reading Library, I'll probably start on December posts for this blog, complete with this year's Christmas Comics feature!
ITEM! Sunday is my daughter Desi's third birthday... for those of you who aren't parents, there's no way I can really tell you in words what a delight it is to watch your child grow up before your eyes, and the pride you take in their accomplishments and achievements. It seems like only a few months ago that she was placed with us at nine months of age... and now she's a preschooler! Next thing I know, she'll be starting to date (and I'll have to figure out the best way to make sure the boys she dates know they will not hurt my little girl or they'll regret it)!
ITEM Plans continue apace for our upcoming road trip to Disneyland... I've read three or four guidebooks to Disneyland, and the next step is to start working on our strategies for which rides to go on when. We have a five-day park pass, so I think we'll manage to see everything we want to without having to feel rushed or pressured.
ITEM! You may have noticed the Captain Ameriblog has resumed posting recently. It won't last too long, sadly, before I run out of material again, but I couldn't let July go by without something there! The Blog of the Creature will be making a brief return to publishing soon as well.

Dog of the Geek: George P. Dog!
Breed: Hound Dog
Original Appearances: Loony Tunes cartoons, beginning with “Walky Talky Hawky” in 1946
Other Appearances: Other assorted cartoons and comic books.
Biography: George P. Dog, aka “Barnyard Dawg,” “Mandrake,” and “Wover,” has apparently bee moved around from owner to owner. He's been employed primarily to watch over a chicken farm, but has also been employed as a dog by Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Elmer Fudd.
Powers: The usual cartoon character ability to recover from incredible damage.
Group Affiliation: Toon Squad (“Space Jam”)
Miscellaneous: George was never actually named such in the Looney Tunes cartoons, usually just referred to as “Dawg” or “The Barnyard Dawg.” It's possible that the dog that appeared in the non-Foghorn Leghorn cartoons is a different character (like Wile E. Coyote and Ralph Wolf), maybe even siblings.
